Business, Goals Edition Editors Letter – Goals Edition
By: Stewart Fleming • 4 years ago •
e set, we strive, we fail, we recalculate, we reset and start again. Goals have always been used as a destination. For sport, business and our personal lives, we are creatures who have a deep physical need to be in motion.
I am reminded of the bus stop that was installed in the corridor of a retirement home in Germany. It attracted regular visitors who wanted to feel they were going somewhere, even though the bus would never come. Day after day they would come and sit for a while. It’s sad, but we all have this need within us.
How many of our own goals are like that? We sit at the bus stop, ready and waiting for the bus that will never come. So how do you know if you are sitting at the right bus stop?
In this edition, we have some of Australia’s top coaches examine this problem and give specific tips for you to help your clients find the right bus stop.
Over the course of my life I have set some pretty crazy goals. Many have been realised in one way or another and many are still to be fully realised.
One of my more ambitious goals was to create a national magazine to bring together all sport, business and life coaches to raise the profession and showcase the massive benefits that coaching is making in this country. I have realised that goal with this, the third edition of Coaching Life.
My next goal is to get this wonderful resource into every hand that needs it.
I was recently told of a school who gave it to one of their top Year 12 athletes. He came back the next day, bouncing, having read it cover to cover but his favourite article was not from any of the sport coaches. He was planning a trip the United States and was stressed about his finances. Reading the article on Financial Coaching, he put together a plan for his expenditure and is now confident in his ability to reach his goal.
Coaching Life is a magazine written specifically for coaches, but it has so much information that there is something in it for everyone. By including both inspirational and academic content, we are striving to make this a resource like National Geographic and are in discussions with several coaching bodies who want to make Coaching Life required reading for professional development.
People who are interested in personal development are subscribing because they want to get every edition and keep them for later reference.
I know this edition of Coaching Life will help you realise some of your own goals.
